Letter to the Society

so my mom is die-hard jw despite disagreeing with some teachings from the gb.

we were talking today about the generation thing, and she told me the generation teaching was inconsequential.

i told her how as a child i thought it was huge that the end would come before the 1914 people died.

I think it also depends on WHERE you write to. I wrote to London Bethel about a matter and received a reply that clearly showed they had not read my question properly. In fact they referred me to the very articles I was quoting from. I raised this with an elder in the congregation and he told me that Bethels such as London are NOT ALLOWED to write anything that is not in the WTS publications!

He suggested I write to Brooklyn, which I did and got a much more reasoned response.

Just a thought.

Who Are Your Past Circuit Overseers? It's a small world..

i'm sure a lot of us actually know mutual people, as the co's relocate all over the country.. here's a few from the southeast us: (let me know if you recognize any names and post yours too please...).

I remember John Blaney (just), he became a DO according to my mother. Don't know RICHARD Carter but well remember David Carter of cream cakes fame. He hailed from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire originally I believe. Albert Broad stayed with us about 1956 ish, he had an old Austin 7 at the time.

I also remember Cullen, Dutton and Seidler. I think Mike Seidler had a friend called Godfrey Bint who became a missionary in Africa. He was in the Yearbook a couple of years or so ago.

PS. It also looks as though the WBTS' target market consists of individuals that have very low IQ levels.

They intend to keep it that way by discouraging further and higher education!

[LONG] Making a plan to leave... I have no friends :'(

the title pretty much explains it all... i don't want to go too much into my story (for paranoid fear of identification), but i have been raised in the "truth", and got baptized at a young age- too young to truly understand what i was getting into.

i still live with my parents, and as such don't want to make a move just yet, as it would destroy virtually everything i have left.

as of now though, i see myself leaning towards agnosticism.. here's my short sob story.

The second question I have is how can I, independently, get myself back on the track of higher education AFTER eighteen? (Trying to get in to college with my current status would be like a pizza delivery boy trying to work at nasa...)

NEVER give up on the idea of higher education. I had to wait until I was married and then with the encouragement of my wife studied part time to get the entry qualifications for university. You are obviously younger than I was so it will be easier. But whatever it takes it's worth it. The financial security in later life is worth all the sacrifices you make now.

I always think it is a shame that the first President of the WTS, William H Conley has been written out of the history. He was President from 1881 - 1884. During that time Joseph Russell was VP and C T Russell was Sec/Tres. The Proclaimers book gives him a one line mention. C T Russell became president in 1884 when he formed the WB&TS of Pennsylvania (INC).

Barbara Anderson has written about Conley and it is well worth reading.

so, if you're sick to death of it, leave now, save yourselves.... anyhoo... as the wts has now unleashed on the world the true explanation of generation and what it means for those of us in this time of the end, dubs who accept without question this teaching are 'oohing' and 'ahhing' as the new explanation 'makes so much sense now'.

How can you take such a simple explanation of a simple statement and turn into something so convoluted that you have to pull shit outa your ass to explain it and yet have your followers say, "I see...the light's getting brighter"...

Has the WTS removed the 'offending' publications? Or just retired them due to time?

i seem to recall the earlier versions of watchtower cd-rom containing books from the 50's and 60's [life everlasting in the freedom of the son's of god - babylon the great has fallen - etc].

i have no cd predating 2001 now in my possession - and looked at that one today doing research, finding that virtually nothing pre-1970 is there [except the revised/altered 'truth' book].. is my memory faulty on this?

could it be that they just 'retired' the older pubs innocently?

I bought a CD from Ebay which contained all the WT's from 1879 to 1949 plus other odds & ends. Only cost about £3 or £4.

Answers to this kind of question vary depending on the target audience. They ought to put into practice the sentiments of the above comment and stop judging people. The GB have usurped the authority of God and Jesus.
